According to sources quoted by the news agency IANS, the Centre of Excellence had initially granted Pandya clearance for the Afghanistan ODI series. However, the newly developed injury has altered the situation, with medical advice indicating that he will not be fully match-fit in time for the series and will instead focus on rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence.
Pandya had previously dealt with a back spasm during the Indian Premier League 2026 season, which had already limited his appearances for the Mumbai Indians. The latest setback comes at a crucial time, as he was expected to play an important role in India’s ODI setup.
His absence, if confirmed, would be a significant blow to the Indian team, given his dual role as a batting all-rounder and a key bowling option.
